Porsche’s new concept car, the Vision 357 Speedster

Celebrating 30 years of the Goodwood Festival with a nod to Porsche’s history

Porsche commemorated the 30th anniversary of the Goodwood Festival of Speed with the unveiling of the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster. The newly introduced concept car is a partner model to the closed Porsche Vision 357, another part of the sports car manufacturer’s celebration for the year.

“The Porsche Vision 357 is a nod to the first Porsche model line, Ferry Porsche’s dream sports car. The Porsche Vision 357 Speedster embodies the essence of the brand. Driving pleasure and driving dynamics combined with an extremely purist form. As with the Mission X that we presented just a few weeks ago, this model demonstrates that even with fresh design genes, the Porsche DNA shines through.”

Michael Mauer, Vice President Style Porsche

Porsche Vision 357 Speedster

The Vision 357 Speedster shares its technological basis with the Porsche 718 GT4 e-Performance. The electric motors and battery technology come from the Mission R, while the chassis originates from the 718 GT4 Clubsport. After its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the design study is set to be displayed at this year’s Rennsport Reunion in the USA.

Exterior design: a blend of speedster tradition and modern innovation

The concept car bears the typical squat, shortened windscreen of a speedster. On the right side of the car, a tonneau cover spans, a feature once typical of open-top sports cars. A technologically designed carbon roll-over element suspends the driver’s headrest in the air.

The two-color concept, employing two grey tones Marble Grey and Grivelo Grey Metallic, draws inspiration from historic motorsport forerunners. The concept car also features Miami Blue accents on details such as the quick-release mechanisms on the wrap-around front bonnet.

Interior design: minimalism for optimum performance

The interior design is stripped down to essentials, primarily serving the driver. The carbon fibre-reinforced plastic seat shell is integrated into the monocoque. The instrument cluster is mounted atop the steering column as a transparent surface. The controls bring back the accent color Miami Blue from the exterior. The dashboard features a carbon-weave finish and the upper right section is equipped with Miami Blue straps to secure accessories, replacing a traditional glove compartment.

The grand parade: showcasing Porsche’s model lineage

Aside from the Vision 357, Porsche showcased over 15 new and classic models at the Goodwood Festival. The illustrious parade was led by the 356 No. 1 Roadster, the very first sports car from the brand. To honor the 100th anniversary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Porsche displayed three class champs and three overall winners, among others.

Look into the future with a nod to the past

Porsche’s newest concept car, the Vision 357 Speedster, not only reinterprets the brand’s history but also gives us a glimpse into the future of sports cars. As electric power becomes more prominent in the industry, the Vision 357 Speedster symbolizes how car manufacturers can adapt without losing their unique DNA. With this car, Porsche demonstrates a commitment to environmental sustainability while staying true to their roots. This sort of outlook, focusing on a long-term approach, ensures a future where high-performance cars can be enjoyed without compromising the environment.
